Saxophonist Bradford Hayes brings his quartet to the library to kick-off Jazz Appreciation Month with an afternoon concert of jazz standards and originals.
Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) is held every April in the United States, in honor of jazz as an early American art form and to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz. JAM was created in 2001 by John Edward Hasse, curator of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, to encourage people of all ages to participate in jazz - to study the music, attend concerts, listen to jazz on radio and recordings, read books about jazz, and more.
The concert this afternoon pays tribute to jazz as both a living and historic music.
