Students in grades 6-9 are invited to play traditional handmade instruments and create new music with Bengali folk musician Joy Sankar.
These workshops provide young musicians the opportunity to play traditional handmade instruments, learn how South Asian, East Asian, and Western music influence each other, and to create new music together. Students will also learn and use handmade instruments from India. In this workshop, musicians will share musical knowledge, encourage understanding and cooperation across cultures through music, learn about the crafts of making and using traditional instruments, and have fun creating music together with traditional and modern instruments. Students are invited to bring their own instruments as part of this workshop.
Joy Sankar is a folk musician who performs on stage and in films across India and internationally. He has taught music since 2015. Joy shares centuries old lyrics and multi-cultural influences to spread messages of peace and unity through creativity.
