Join us for a special read‑aloud of Growing Up True, a book inspired by the childhood of Patty True Payne whose family roots run deep in the Black farming communities of the Sourland Mountain region.
Families are invited to join Ms. Payne, current board member of the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum, for an engaging, interactive reading of the story based on her own life. Ms. Payne grew up on Sourland Mountain, in what is now the Reasoner True House, on the campus of the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum. This story highlights generations of resilience and community in the Sourlands. Attend this program and learn more about the work of SSAAM to preserve local African American history.
