Students in grades 6-9 are invited to play traditional handmade instruments and create new music with Bengali folk musician Joy Sankar.
This workshop series is led by Joy Sankar, a Bengali folk musician and music teacher. Joy is also a performer, researcher, and teacher of traditional Bengali folk music - showing the contemporary relevance of ancient sounds. This workshop offers students the opportunity to play traditional handmade instruments and learn how South Asian, East Asian and Western music influence each other.
Students are invited to bring their own instruments as part of this workshop.
For students in grades sixth through ninth grades. Registration required.
Register for the workshop series only if the student is able to commit to attending all three workshops and participating in the public performance on May 20. Please check the dates below, before registering.
Workshop 1: Wednesday May 6, 4-5:30 p.m.
Workshop 2: Wednesday May 13, 4-5:30 p.m.
Workshop 3 and Public Performance: Wednesday, May 20: workshop at 4 p.m.; public performance at 4:30 p.m. in the Community Room.
Audience members do not need to register to attend the May 20 performance.
