The TV movies based on the books that inspired the hit Canadian detective series are screened on successive Thursday afternoons. Tea and cookies will be served.
Before the hit Canadian TV drama starring Yannick Bisson, "Murdoch Mysteries" was a series of made-for-TV movies with Peter Outerbridge (Orphan Black) as the police detective who solves crimes with newfangled forensic techniques. Keeley Hawes is Dr. Julia Ogden, and Colm Meane is Inspector Brackenreid starring in 3 feature-length films based on Maureen Jennings's novels.
One movie from the series will be screened each week on successive Thursday afternoons at 3 p.m.
February 9: "Except the Dying": When a young chambermaid's body is found in the streets, Murdoch sets out to solve the crime with the help of Constable Oliver Wicken and forensic scientist Dr. Julia Ogden. But Inspector Brackenreid pressures him to work more quickly after the chief constable takes notice of the case. As he hunts for clues in both the basest of brothels and the swankiest of gentlemen's club, Murdoch races to catch the culprit before he claims another victim. (1 hour and 29 minutes)
February 16: "Poor Tom Is Cold": Murdoch's colleague is found dead, his body smelling of a whiskey-fueled suicide. However, Murdoch believes the case itself reeks of foul play and centers his investigation on the sinister Eakin family. Prostitute Ettie helps Murdoch get the lead he's been looking for, and after a high-stress case, sparks fly for Murdoch and Julia at a fireworks show.(1 hour and 29 minutes)
February 23: "Under the Dragon's Tail": Detective Murdoch investigates the murder of Dolly Capshaw, a midwife who was also an abortionist. Using new techniques such as fingerprints (or finger marks as they are known at the time) and handwriting analysis, Murdoch eliminates a number of suspects. Dolly leaves behind three young wards with mysterious pasts.(1 hour and 33 minutes)
