Women’s History Month will be celebrated at this annual event featuring a talk presented by astrophysicist Jenny Greene, along with a special performance by the Princeton Girlchoir.
An inspiring evening of music and discovery for Women’s History Month. The Princeton Girlchoir opens the program with a 30-minute performance showcasing songs that honor the voices and achievements of women. Following the concert, Jenny Greene, astrophysicist at Princeton University, will share insights into her work exploring the universe and reflect on her role as Academic Director of the Prison Teaching Initiative, expanding access to higher education for incarcerated students. Together, music and conversation create a powerful tribute to curiosity, creativity, and leadership.
About the Speaker:
Jenny Greene is a professor of astrophysics at Princeton University whose research explores massive black holes and the galaxies that host them. An award-winning scientist and educator, she is also co-founder and Academic Director of Princeton’s Prison Teaching Initiative, which brings college-level courses to incarcerated students. Greene is a frequent public speaker known for making complex ideas about the universe accessible and engaging for broad audiences. About Princeton Girlchoir:
Founded in 1989 as an after-school activity for girls interested in choral music, Princeton Girlchoir has grown into the area’s premier training and performance choir for girls, with over 290 choristers participating each year.
Princeton Girlchoir — a program of Westrick Music Academy — is comprised of seven choirs made up of girls from 3rd through 12th grade, drawing singers together from over 75 schools in Central New Jersey and Bucks County. These choirs present music from a wide array of genres, conductors, and composers. While honing their musicianship, choristers enjoy life-long friendships, participate in professional performance opportunities, and travel around the world.

The Marchand Lecture, dedicated to “inspiring excellence in community based leadership,” is an annual library event held in honor of Phyllis Marchand, Princeton Township’s longest serving mayor and a leader and leadership mentor in the community for five decades.
Phyllis Marchand, former Princeton Township mayor and Township Committee member, died in the spring of 2021, after serving in Princeton’s local government for 22 years, 14 of them as mayor. In addition to her government service, she had leadership roles in several community non-profits including: the D&R Greenway (she was chair of Board of Trustees at the time of her death); Princeton YWCA; McCarter Theatre; HomeFront; Planned Parenthood; the Coalition for Peace Action; the D&R Canal Commission; Princeton-Pettoranello Sister City Foundation; the New Jersey League of Municipalities; the Mercer Council for Alcohol and Drug Addiction; Corner House; the Jewish Center of Princeton; Cancer Care; the Princeton Garden Theatre; and the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
