Participants will capture travel and summer memories by using collages, photos and more to design the pages and covers of a three-dimensional book.
The flag book is a very exciting form, originally created by Hedi Kyle, where layered pages crisscross each other when opening and closing, making the book a living, moving, interactive entity. The flags’ wonderful movement allows for multiple images and content.
In this workshop, open to those 16 and older, students will use maps, ticket stubs, ephemera, etc. from places they have visited or experienced — or just dreamt about in their imagination. Thoughtful discussion of how to best incorporate this self-generated content with the structure of the book will also occur. If you like books and like to travel, this workshop is for you.
The library will provide all materials required to create the basic structure of the book. Attendees should bring their own photos and other items to enhance the book they create. A detailed materials lists will be provided one week prior to class.
