Entity is a fusion of East meets West featuring Indian percussion and cello. The duo is composed of Daniel Johnson on tabla and Dan Kassel on cello.
About Entity:
Daniel Johnson and Dan Kassel each bring their nuanced approach to form a sound that is timeless and steeped in classical tradition while remaining progressive and experimental.
Daniel Johnson has worked extensively teaching tabla and percussion to students in the Princeton area as well as working alongside the Princeton University Dance Department. He performs with many notable Indian Classical and Kirtan artists as well as Afro-Cuban flavored ensembles, and he is a disciple of the great Ustad Tari Khan (tabla player) and has trained beside him in India.
Dan Kassel was raised playing cello classically from a young age and has performed in orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout NJ and PA. In recent years, Dan has gravitated more towards world music and live-looping and he performs his original music for weddings, corporate events and concerts throughout the Eastern Seaboard. He is also a sought-after recording artist and has been featured on recordings alongside Randy Brecker, Glen McClelland (Blood Sweat and Tears, Ween), and Jack Daley (Lenny Kravitz, Spin Doctors).
Entity captures the magical spark that occurs when the soulful tones of the cello and tabla join. It can best be described as a journey of interwoven textures with one foot in the past and the other in the boundless future of sonic exploration.
