The group will meet on the third Tuesday of each month to discuss readings from fundamental texts in history and political theory, focusing particularly upon democracy. Selected readings come from Herodotus, Thucydides, Plato, Aristotle, Locke, Rousseau, Wollstonecraft, Tocqueville, Du Bois and others.
This is a hybrid online/in-person course offered in partnership with the Catherine Project. Readers in the Princeton area are encouraged to attend the meetings in person at the library and should register for the series through the events calendar.
Registration for online attendance via Zoom will be managed by the Catherine Project. Online readers should register by writing to study@catherineproject.org.
Limited copies of the selected titles are available for borrowing from the library. A book list details the planned titles for each meeting and the specific parts of each book which will be read for discussion.
