This workshop provides a foundational understanding of key concepts on plastics: how plastics are made, the significance of resin identification codes (RICs) and practical recycling guidelines.
Presented by Princeton University Assistant Professor of Chemistry Erin Stache, the workshop will also highlight issues around “greenwashing” and “wish cycling.” These practices—where products are falsely marketed as sustainable or recyclable, or materials are mistakenly put in recycling bins—are widespread. The more the community knows about managing its plastic, the less of a problem it will pose for the future. By fostering a deeper understanding of plastics and sustainability, this initiative aims to empower individuals to make informed decisions and contribute to more effective waste management in the Princeton community.
