Lecture Recitals from the New School for Music Study

Pianists from the faculty of the New School for Music Study present a three-part series of lecture recitals devoted to compositions of interest to audiences of all ages.

Feb. 22: "John Williams' Film Scores: Transcriptions for Solo Piano"

This lecture recital brings music of the famous film composer John Williams into classical piano repertoire. Listeners will discover a wide variety of pieces from film scores such as "The Book Thief," "E.T.," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" and "Lincoln." Learn about the process of transcribing orchestral music from a professional pianist, and hear original transcriptions created for this recital program.

March 1: "Selections of 'Carnival of the Animals' by Camille Saint-Saëns"

Join Carla Salas-Ruiz and Alexa Stier for an engaging four-hands piano recital of “The Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saëns. Designed for children aged 4-10, this interactive experience combines live music, vivid projections, and creative activities, inspiring young listeners to explore music through movement, percussion and imagination.

March 8: "Behind the Scenes: Live Movie Soundtrack Creation with Piano Inspires Kids"

This session showcases short films accompanied by live piano performances of original soundtracks. Attendees will learn about the creative process behind composing for film, hear how music enhances storytelling, and experience the synchronization of live music with on-screen action. For all ages and interests in music and film.
