We're counting down the days to the 2024 election with a series of classic films about Washington, D.C., politicians and political campaigns. Tea and cookies will be served.
This 1949 Best Picture Academy Award-winner is based on Robert Penn Warren's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about the rise and fall of a Southern politician who starts out as an honest corruption fighter only to degenerate into a ruthless, unethical demagogue. Broderick Crawford won a Best Actor Oscar as the office holder and Mercedes McCambridge got the nod as Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of his shrewd secretary.
