Writers in grades 5 to 8 are invited to bring a work in progress of up to 2500 words to workshop as a group and prepare to pitch for publication in youth literary journals. Registration required.
So you’ve written a short story, a poem, a personal essay — or maybe a few pages in your journal that could turn into the first chapter of a novel. Now what? Geared toward a more experienced young writer, this workshop focuses on sharing works-in-progress and getting feedback from the instructor and other participants. Components of story-telling (voice, characterization, narrative description, pacing, etc.) will be discussed in response to the work read aloud to the group. Creative writers in all genres (sci-fi, mystery, memoir, etc.) are welcome. The goal is to shape a piece of writing (2500 words, max) so it can be pitched for publications in youth literary journals. Instructor: Megan McCafferty.
