Lecture: Introduction to SOGIE

Stacy Robustelli, HiTOPS Director of Education, discusses the changing concepts and understanding around sexual orientation, gender identity and expression to help adults create safe communities.

Stacy Robustelli presents an introduction to the concepts used in sexuality orientation and gender identity and expression, including terms like “gender identity,” “gender-non-conforming,” “non-binary,” “pansexual,”  "pronouns,” “trans youth and sports,” “all-gender bathrooms.” This changing culture means that the behavior, expectations, and outlook of young people can be baffling, frustrating, and nerve-wracking for adults. Robustelli discusses how to create affirming, caring, respectful, and safe communities for young people, and how to put awareness into practice.

Stacy Robustelli (she/her) earned her doctorate in educational psychology from Rutgers University in 2006. Since then she has worked in various roles; as an adjunct professor, an associate research scientist, and the director of education at HiTOPS.
