Starring Sridevi as Shashi Godbole, "English Vinglish" is a 2012 Hindi-language comedy-drama about a housewife turned budding entrepreneur who makes snacks and sweets. She wants to improve her English, so she enrolls in course to stop her family from mocking her lack of English skills and gains self-respect in the process.
Sridevi Kapoor, known mononymously as Sridevi, was an Indian actress who is often cited as the "first female superstar" of Indian cinema and Bollywood. This screening is in advance of Desi Day at the library on May 17, an all day event that will include a storytime, author panel, and culture fair with performances.
