Meet our fall artists and view their work. "Salvadoran Art: A Father and Son Exhibit" is on display in the Reading Room. "Uprooted Trees, Magicicadas and Climate Change" is in the Technology Center.
The library's second floor art galleries have new art for the fall. This informal art open house gives you a chance to view the new exhibits and chat with the artists while enjoying refreshments.
Saúl A López and his son Sual López have art on display that showcases the strong connection they both have with their Salvadoran heritage. Featured in this show are Sual's artwork on skateboard decks and Saúl's "Petate Paintings". A petate is a bedroll used in Central America and Mexico. Saúl states that "painting on a petate offers a unique challenge and it also allows me to connect with my homeland on a deeper level".
Susan Hoenig's exhibit focuses on the emergence of the Brood X cicada that happened in May 2021 when she studied and sketched the three species of Magicicada. Her paintings are about the unique life cycle of cicadas and the devastating loss of trees.
