Becoming a Steward of Your Local Environment
In celebration of Earth Day, the library and Friends of Herrontown Woods invite you to join us, along with community volunteers, for a day of exploring and learning in nature.

Schedule of Earth Day events for families, children and adults:
9-10 a.m. - Flowers and Frogs Family Hike, with local botanists Stephen Hiltner and John Clark. Hike is moderate, and boots recommended, children may want to wear galoshes. Sign up at this link to save your spot.
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Visit local experts and community volunteers at hands-on display tables in the Botanical Art Garden (Barden) and near the Veblen House:
- Explore Princeton Public Library’s books on pollinators and native wildflowers and make a butterfly bookmark
- Learn to plant your own wildflower seeds with Mathilde Burlion of Pousse Petit Jardinier.
- Bring home a potted native plant for your yard.
- Adults can make and bring home their own herbal vinegar with Tish Streetan of Queen Mab’s Herbs using local plants and herbs.
- Arts and crafts include making a "nature mandala” or joining the Littlebrook School PTO in decorating a reusable grocery bag
- Take home some “eco-friendly” samples.
- Get expert advice on tips for photographing nature.
- Learn about local invasive species from local experts, and perhaps join the newly formed, relaxed and friendly "Invasive Species of the Month Club!"
1-3 p.m. - Geology Walk with Professor Emeritus Lincoln Hollister of Princeton University Geosciences Department, discussing the formation of the Princeton Ridge and its special rocks. Limited capacity. Sign up at this link to save your spot.
This event is part of our series examining pollinators and the importance of wildflowers in conjunction with our Pollination Investigation exhibit on the 2nd Floor of the library.
