Six leading black museums and historical institutions join forces to launch BLKFREEDOM.org, a digital commemoration of Juneteenth, featuring a variety of cultural performances.

This event marks of Juneteenth, the day that the Emancipation Proclamation was officially enforced, ending enslavement in Texas. This timely event features cultural performances from Africa and across America. Thanks to our partnership with PBS Books, the library is able to offer exclusive access to this event by clicking here.

Locally, we have a virtual program that you can view at any time titled "Talking about Juneteenth". This program was produced by Vivia Font and features historian Dawn Wisteria Bates along with the Rev. Lukata Mjumbe of Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church and Tommy Parker, chair of the Princeton Civil Rights Commission, talking about the history of Juneteenth and its significance in the ongoing struggle for true freedom and equality of black Americans.
