Lindsey Smith leads a workshop on identifying and interpreting old photographs in your personal collection and methods to preserve, store and share photographs safely and accessibly.
In this interactive workshop, Lindsey Smith invites attendees to rethink the role photography has had in our lives and develop a plan to confidently manage your collection, even if it includes thousands of images. This is a quick-paced, introductory workshop that incorporates authentic examples of 19th and 20th century images. Attendees will learn the basics of the history of photography and photographic processes, be challenged to think about photographic images in new ways, and explore the many things that can be learned from a single image.
Presenter: Lindsey Smith, Exhibitsmith, has worked with influential companies and organizations including the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago (The U-505 Experience), Geoffrey M. Curley + Associates (The International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes), Heritage Werks (archival management services), the State Historical Society of Iowa (Iowa: One Piece at a Time), the Danish Museum of America (Danish Roots, American Dreams), and many more. Lindsey served on the Governor-appointed Iowa Historical Records Advisory Board and the Iowa Museum Association Board, and is currently the Artifact Assessment Program Coordinator for the New Jersey Association of Museums.
